If you own a large office building, or an apartment complex, usually a complete inspection of every unit would take a lot of time and be very costly. Some property owners in these situations will choose instead to have a representative sampling done for their inspection.

What does this mean? Well, instead of the inspector doing a full inspection of every single part of the property, a selection of apartments, offices or even a section of a warehouse will be chosen for the inspection. It will be specified in the contract what the inspection entails, how many units will be inspected, and then the results of that inspection will be considered as representative for the remaining property.

By doing this, it is still possible to get an idea of the general state of the property while not being prohibitively costly.

Of course, there is always the option to have the entire property inspected, as long as you are aware of the cost and time that it will involve.
