Double pane windows are the best type of windows for protecting you from the outside elements, saving you money on heating and cooling year-round.
Double pane windows are good insulators because the two panes are separated by a gas that doesn’t conduct heat. The problem is that the gas might escape, causing the window to lose its insulating ability. In some extreme cases, it is possible for window panes that have lost their gas to actually be touching. Using a thermal imaging camera, you can detect such problems.
You could also be losing cool or hot air through leaks around your window, where the wood has either cracked or rotted away. Thermal imaging makes it very easy to see where these leaks are located, and you might even be able to stop rot before it becomes a problem, since the wood likely will contain a lot of moisture in sections that have been affected.
