Barns are very unique buildings, and because of this their inspection would be unique. What would an inspection of a barn involve? Usually, safety concerns are a major element of any inspection. Since barns often are located in remote areas, fire hazards should be of special concern. For example, lamps and especially heating lamps can easily cause a fire. You shouldn’t store hay, chemicals or other flammable items near them, and if you have large amounts of cobwebs collecting on and around them, you should clean that out.

You should also make sure that you have a working fire extinguisher in your barn.

If you have electricity in your barn, the receptacles should be GFCI to protect against the danger of electrocution. Sometimes wiring in barns is done haphazardly, leaving exposed wires and other dangerous situation. Make sure to have an electrician take a look and resolve issues found.

If you have livestock in the barn, you should be careful to have proper ventilation as well, since they easily could overheat otherwise.
